The Beginning

On July 23, 2009, son Thor's tenth birthday, we completed the first step in our dream. We signed the paperwork to purchase 17 acres of woods, wetland and waterfront on a small lake in Western Wisconsin. Currently, the land is completely raw, no buildings, utilities, not even a driveway. I think that was part of the appeal to Ray. He wants to start this endeavor from scratch, building our family compound from the ground up. It also meant that it was very affordable! We will camp on the land in the beginning, getting a feel for it and taking some time to figure out the best building sites. Eventually, we envision a small cabin there as well as several campsites for friends and family to visit. We feel so lucky and excited to have this opportunity and invite you to follow our progress!

  2. Only if there's a trashcan full of meat involved. By the way - great baby! He's beautiful and looks extremely well loved. Congrats!

  3. I'd be happy to name all the amenities after friends, if there is a donation involved. Can't wait to use the Chris Martin Outhouse.

  5. Very nice work Paulsons! And happy 10th birthday Thor! May the pioneer days at Camp Freedom be magical and wolverine-free.

I see a nice swath in the middle there for the caber toss field, right next to the meat Trebuchet. Also maybe: Lightning Field II?

    Cheers all.

  6. Huzzah! Nice work! Camp Freedom looks like it should be pretty cool! I'm at your disposal for any graphic needs you may have, Flags, Buttons, Badges or infomatics. Im am also well versed in the design of subterranean laboratories, hide-outs and lairs. Any consultation you may need about zombie-proofing will be freely given as well. Cant wait to see this move forward!

  7. Clay, we will definitely take you up on that zombie proofing. You know how important that is to Ray. He's been arming the family against possible zombie attack since the children were very small, whittling us each our own zombie bat. Mine is called "Ladies Choice." Guthrie was about 3 when he received his. He was excited to get his own handmade weapon, but also clearly distressed that he might be called on to fight monsters. I tried to calm him down by reassuring him that zombies weren't real and that Daddy was only playing. Ray told him that Mommy was a liar and that he needed to be ever-vigilant. Parenting is full of so many compromises. . .
