After our exceptionally mild winter, the temperature soared in the 60's for the first time this weekend and it really felt like Spring. Due to our lack of snow, we have been able to get away with not plowing our driveway a single time. Oddly, our luck ran out on the first really warm day of the year. A heavy, late February snowfall made the driveway impassable and we managed to slide off into the ditch. Our neighbor, Cy, was out and about on his tractor, collecting sap from all the maples he has tapped in the area. He saw our car in the ditch and stated, "It is because of situations like this that profanity was invented." He loaned us a winch and we were able to pull the car out, but had to leave it and the trailer down at the bottom of the hill. That would have been fine, but we were hauling another load of paneling and a set of scaffolding. That made for many strenuous trips up and down the steep driveway.
Next year, we really need to find a plow guy who can clear the driveway for us. We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening putting panels on the ceiling. It's a huge job and we're all pretty sore today, but it is really fun to see the progress. We spent the night at the cabin and for the first time, the combination of mild temperatures, full insulation, the electric heaters and a partially paneled ceiling made it feel warm and toasty in there.
